Press and communications placement

The Press and Communications Department is the lynchpin between the RSC and regional, national and international media (broadcast, print and web based).

The department also provides support in terms of internal and external communications within the RSC to other front-facing departments.

RSC Press and Communications has a team incorporating a Director of Communications, Head of Press (who oversees a team of two Press & PR Officers), a Communications Manager, Officer and Assistant, Web Editor and a PA/Office Administrator.

About the placement

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • See how the theory of press and communications translates into reality on a on a day to day basis within a unique environment
  • Develop an understanding of the skills and behaviours required to operate as an effective press and communications professional
  • Observe a wide range of responsibilities ranging from day to day administration to the development of overall press & communications service
  • Undertake project work centred around the organisational priorities at the time of placement.

Criteria

We are looking for applicants who are committed to a career in press and communications

Essential attributes:

  • Be a graduate, or be studying a Communications related degree or equivalent
  • Highly developed written and oral communications skills
  • Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Possess high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Have the ability to act with integrity and to observe confidentiality.

Desirable attributes:

  • Basic understanding of Data Protection Act
  • Knowledge of arts and theatre-related media
  • Some experience of organising promotional events.
