The RSC Property Workshop create, source, or find props for all RSC productions, at home and on tour.
Property Workshop (Ref: WP11)
In line with the Designer's brief and in response to requests from the rehearsal process, Prop Makers use a multitude of skills for to create props; carving, sculpting, basket weaving, plastic moulding, cabinet making, metalwork, soldering, embroidery, upholstery making, casting, to name just a few.
Accuracy according to period is essential, and much time is spent consulting reference books, researching items on the Internet, and visiting museums for meticulous study.

About the placement
The Property Workshop workload varies throughout the year and also from production to production. Under supervision of a trained professional the successful candidate could be involved in basic carpentry, sewing, carving, casting in latex, dyeing and much more.
Criteria
We are looking for applicants who are committed to a career in props construction.
Essential attributes:
- Experience of sourcing or constructing props for example, college productions or amateur theatre groups
- An understanding of the techniques and tools needed to create props
- The ability to work on one's own initiative and within a team
- Due to Health and Safety regulations candidates must be 18 years or older
Desirable attributes:
- To be a graduate of or studying towards a qualification relating to props construction
- Good understanding of Health and Safety at Work Act and its implications in a workshop environment.
