RSC Collection is a registered museum with designated museum collections. The Collection is part of the RSC Learning Department and is made up of a Curator, a Curatorial Assistant, and a number of Collection Assistants.

Production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Our collections include paintings, costumes, and theatrical ephemera. We have our displays at the RSC but also loan items and exhibitions to other institutions.

About the placement


This is an ongoing voluntary work placement whereby the successful candidate will have an opportunity to experience the day to day activities of working with the RSC Collection. You will list, catalogue and file collection items, as well as preparing costume bags.

There are no set dates or working hours for this voluntary work placement. The detail of this placement will be arranged to fit in with the demands of the Collection Department as well as the requirements of the successful candidate.



Criteria

We are looking for applicants who are committed to a career in Museums or Art Galleries.

Essential attributes:

  • Interested in applying for a course in History, Fine Art or Costume
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self motivated
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Numerate
  • Confident and polite telephone manner
  • Strong team player
  • Due to Health and Safety regulations candidates must be 18 years or older.

Desirable attributes:

  • Proven knowledge of or interest in Shakespeare and the RSC’s work in performance
  • Previous experience of working with museum objects
  • Previous experience of working with cataloguing systems.

Selection process


Stage 1 - Application form and Written Work: 500 words illustrating interest in History and Theatre History.
Stage 2 - Formal interview (Collections Manager and member of HR team)
Stage 3 - Tutor reference, and/or portfolio viewing
Stage 4 - Successful candidate begins placement
