Public subsidy
The Royal Shakespeare Company is one of Britain's four national performing arts organisations funded directly from the Arts Council of England.
In 2001/2 the RSC received £12 million from ACE, plus income from the British Council and local government partners in the City of London, Newcastle upon Tyne, Stratford-upon-Avon and throughout the UK.
Annually the RSC returns 81% of its public funding in taxation.

Self-generated income
The RSC aims to be enterprising in its approach to creating income. The RSC generates more than 60% of its annual income from ticket sales and commercial activities. Each year the company both develops existing audiences and finds new audiences, to help maximise box office income.
By working with sponsors and generating income from commercial licensing, retail and catering opportunities the RSC earns cash and in-kind support of over £3.5 million each year.
Sponsorship
Income generated from partnerships with individuals, businesses, universities and trusts and foundations is a vital part of the RSC's funding. This income underpins the RSC's work both on and off the stage and plants the seeds of ideas for exciting and pioneering new ventures.
Such invaluable support is rewarded through many prestigious benefits tailored to meet individual marketing objectives.
Support
Individuals contribute to the life of the RSC through Patrons Schemes and the Actor's Fund, which provides support for verse, movement, fight training and actor's welfare. RSC Patrons take part in a range of events programmed around performances and enjoy special access to all those involved in the life of the RSC.
The networks extend to the business community, where a wide range of partnership opportunities exist, from title sponsorship of a production or tour to support for community, education and access programmes.
