Wigs & Make-up Department (Ref WP01)
The RSC Wigs & Make-up Department are located at The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The team is made up of three core members of staff, one Wigs & Make-up Supervisor and two Wigs & Make-up Artists. All members of the department have trained as hairdressers and learnt wig-making and make-up skills before they join the RSC.
The department provide direct support for all performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Approx. 80-90% of their work is wigs and hair related, whilst only 10-20% is make-up.

Available dates: Available all year round
Length of placement: 1 week Monday to Friday (3pm-5pm & 6pm-10.30pm)
Location: Wigs & Make-up Studio, Stratford-upon-Avon

About the placement
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
- 'Blocking up' for the wig making process
- Experience and observe the wig making process
- Experience and observe the application of theatrical make-up
- Make dabby-doos (press pads for applying wigs)
- Prepare Wigs & Make-up studio for operations
Level of direct involvement with certain wigs & make-up processes will be dependent upon the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Criteria
We are looking for applicants who are committed to a career in Theatrical/Media Hair & Make-up.
Essential attributes:
- A graduate of, or studying towards, an NVQ II or equivalent in Hairdressing. A qualification or interest in theatrical make-up is an advantage
- Good understanding of Health and Safety at Work Act
- Possess high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Have the ability to act with integrity and to observe confidentiality
- Good interpersonal skills
