The RSC is an ensemble company. Everyone in the company, from directors, actors and writers to production, administrative, technical and workshop staff all collaborate in the RSC's distinctive and unmistakable approach to theatre.
The RSC employs over 500 people who either work directly on producing and running the productions or within roles that directly support the work that takes place on stage.
Her Majesty the Queen is Patron and His Royal Highness and the Prince of Wales is President of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The Company is led by the RSC Board, chaired by Sir Christopher Bland. The Board is made up of around 15 non-salaried people, chosen for their skills and experience in leading and steering the Company. They work closely with the RSC senior management team.
The Board is selected from a wider group of RSC Governors. Governors act as ambassadors and advocates for the RSC and are drawn from a wide range of disciplines. They bring different experience and skills that add to the life of the Company. Governors meet at least once a year at the Company's AGM, chaired by the President, HRH The Prince of Wales.
The artistic leadership and the management of the RSC are led by the RSC's Artistic Director, Michael Boyd and Executive Director, Vikki Heywood. They are supported by a group of senior managers who make up the RSC Steering Group.
Associate Advisory Directors work closely with Michael Boyd on the artistic programme. Chief Associate Director Gregory Doran, theatre directors David Farr and Roxana Silbert and the designer Tom Piper work alongside the Artistic Director as Associate Directors of the Company.
Associate Artists are a group of actors, designers and writers who have a special association with the RSC.
