School work experience

A group of young people standing on the RSC stage during the Stage Management Workshop

Taste of Theatre (Year 10 - 11 students)

Every year, we invite 24 students in Year 10 and 11 to join us for Taste of Theatre work experience week. Students participate in a range of activities that demonstrate how different theatre departments contribute to our productions.

Students can expect to gain a broad understanding of many of the non-performing roles within an international theatre company, and how they work together.

This includes taking part in workshops in different theatre departments, such as directing, lighting, marketing, stage management and costume. Students are also invited to take part in a theatre-related team project.

The programme is themed around a play that is a part of our current season. Most of the sessions are linked to this production, with an opportunity to see a matinee performance. In 2013, the programme is themed around As You Like It.

Although students will learn about stage-related roles (such as movement, sound, lighting, etc.), this week is not designed for those who are specifically interested in performing arts. We regularly run events for young people who are interested in acting.
