Letters to Brett
A few years ago, Brett Goldin, a talented young actor, and his partner were murdered in a brutal hijacking in our country. I read in the papers that this young man was about to go to Stratford and play a role in a production of Hamlet. A bursary program was then set up in his memory - to honour what he was about and to make his memory live on in other young actors - giving them the opportunity to go to the RSC.
I read the notice about the bursary auditions and, with a wish and a prayer, I wrote my motivation to be awarded an audition. I got a phone call on the Friday night and was informed that I was to audition for the panel of judges on the Wednesday - and the rest is history...
Sitting in Stratford-upon-Avon now and thinking: 'Why am I here and not Brett?' I've decided it is only fitting to write to him and keep him alive in this journey. What follows is just that, a journey of one actor to discover Shakespeare.
