The story behind our new Henry IV trailer
We published the trailer for our upcoming productions of Henry IV Parts I and II today. It was filmed in Stratford-upon-Avon in early February on the stage of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the upper school room at King Edward IV School.

We sent photographer Lucy Barriball to capture some behind-the-scenes images from the shoot.

The trailer was filmed and produced by a crew of 25 people and features Alex Hassell, who plays Prince Hal, helped by 20 'extras' who came from Stratford and nearby locations.
The trailer is produced by John Wyver – who produces the live cinema broadcasts of our productions – and directed by Maxwell White with Owen Horsley (who is assistant director for the stage production).
This production is 'epic'
John says: 'In this trailer we've got 70 seconds to tell the story. We wanted to give a sense of the scale of the production – it's really big and epic – but also to suggest the journey that Hal, the king's son, goes on. So we see him with the folk of Eastcheap in the tavern, but we also see him facing up to the royal responsibility that is inevitably coming his way by the end of the two plays.'
John also says that he hopes the trailer will persuade people that these productions are going to leave behind 'merrie England' and bring the story into a more contemporary context.
'If you know nothing about the plays or Shakespeare, don't worry – come and see them,' says John. 'They will show you a funny, exciting, thrilling and touching vision of England – from bar room to throne room.'
Tickets to cinema broadcasts of the play are available to buy now. Visit the Onscreen website to get yours.
Henry IV Parts I and II open in Stratford-upon-Avon on 18 March, will tour nationally in the autumn before transferring to the Barbican in London. It will be broadcast live to cinemas across the country in May and June.
