Take a box stage tour at the theatre
We've taken delivery of a new model box exhibition which lifts the lid on the modern history of the theatrical thrust stage.
The Guthrie Thrust Stage 1948 – 2011; A Living Legacy model box exhibition was created by the Association of British Theatre Technicians in honour of influential director Sir William Tyrone Guthrie (1900 – 1971) who championed the use of the thrust stage, believing that it enhanced the theatrical experience for actors and audiences alike.
At the centre of the exhibition are beautifully crafted miniature models of peopled auditoria and stages, all to scale, of the key phases in the modern history of the development of the thrust stage, including of course a small scale replica of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
Accompanying the models are a power point display, which adds many more images, and a 32 page publication with over 50 illustrations in colour and black and white.
This fascinating exhibition is free to view and is on display at the Swan Gallery in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from Monday 16 January to Saturday 10 March 2012.
