Artists wanted for scratch night at the RSC

Call for West Midlands theatre makers - new performance ideas wanted.

Together with regional 'scratch night' PILOT, we are holding a special evening, offering audiences a unique insight into how brand new theatre ideas are formed and staged.

A scratch event is a chance for an audience to see a show in its infancy and for artists to test out new ideas in front of a supportive crowd. PILOT runs regular scratch events at a range of venues. More about PILOT.

RSC PILOT Night will be an evening of new devised theatre ideas, created by professional artists from around the West Midlands, made especially for the World Shakespeare Festival.

We are looking for artists or companies to create a new theatre work, inspired by Shakespeare, exploring ideas around his relevance today and his legacy within everyday culture.

We are looking for:

  • Wide ranging ideas, that can explore big thematic ideas or a single stage direction. They can be dark, satirical, visual, humorous or irreverent
  • Performance that use Shakespeare's words, ideas or stories as a starting point for a new theatrical idea

Submissions are by open application. The RSC and PILOT will select up to five artists or companies based within the West Midlands. The five selected artists will each be offered expenses of £500.

The closing date for applications is Monday 12 March 2012 at 12 noon. RSC PILOT Night takes place at the Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on Thursday 12 July.
