Three girls cast to play Matilda

Three school girls cast in title role for the RSC's world premiere of Matilda, A Musical

The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced the names of the three girls who will star as the iconic character Matilda in the Royal Shakespeare Company's forthcoming Matilda, A Musical.

The three girls, Adrianna Bertola (aged 11), Josie Griffiths (aged 10) and Kerry Ingram (aged 11) will share the role of Matilda throughout its run at The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from this November.

In August the girls had the opportunity to look around Roald Dahl's beautiful garden at Gipsy House, in Great Missenden, and took a peek in the writing hut where Roald Dahl famously wrote his books – including Matilda.

Matilda, A Musical previews in the RSC's Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from 9 November 2010 and plays for a straight 12 week run until 30 January 2011. It will be directed by the Tony Award-winning Matthew Warchus, the book is by playwright and screen-writer Dennis Kelly, and the music and lyrics are by the anarchic Australian comedian, musician and composer Tim Minchin.

Matilda is Roald Dahl's magical story about a little girl with extraordinary powers and has been a favourite novel for millions of children across the world since it was first published in 1988.
