Bristol based theatre makers Stand + Stare bring their Edinburgh Fringe sell-out show, The Guild of Cheesemakers, a cheese and wine tasting evening with a fictional narrative, to the Swan Room at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from Tuesday 11 to Saturday 15 December 2012.
It is the evening of The Guild of Cheesemakers' Annual Tasting and a panel of culinary experts have gathered to guide the guests of the Guild on a gastronomic journey. The scene is set as tables are laid out with crisp white cloths and a superb selection of artisan cheeses, wines and breads are presented for digestion and discussion.
But amongst the fine fare on offer is a cheese like no other, a cheese which some believe has mystical powers: the mysterious 198th cheese in The Book of Curds. Is it from space? Is it an elixir of youth? Or is it simply a rather good vintage?
Gradually, the secrets of the 198th are uncovered, leading all who sample it to question the very essence of life and to make a collective decision that could alter humanity forever.
Initially devised for Mayfest, Bristol 2011, The Guild of Cheesemakers has since been developed in collaboration with Emma Callander (Theatre Uncut/A Play, a Pie and a Pint) with support from Arts Council England and Parabola Arts Centre, Cheltenham.
A sell-out at this year's Edinburgh Fringe and now on tour, The Guild of Cheesemakers incorporates an excellent assortment of cheeses from leading cheesemonger Paxton & Whitfield, wonderful wine and artisan breads, a panel of real life tasting experts, a multi-talented cast and a debate-provoking story that gets right to the heart of what it means to age and be human.
The Guild of Cheesemakers will be performed in the Swan Room of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from Tuesday 11 December to Saturday 15 December 2012. Performances begin at 7pm.
Tickets, which cost £20 are now available and can be booked by calling the RSC Box Office on 0844 800 1110 or online.

About Stand + Stare
Stand + Stare create immersive theatre and experiential work. The collective formed in 2009 as a result of a large site-specific performance that transformed an old neglected boys club. Since then it has evolved into a limited company run by brother and sister, Barney and Lucy Heywood. Still working with a constantly expanding and retracting wider collective, they produce touring productions, commercial commissions, small intimate pieces, audio experiences, short films and non-linear narratives.
Stand + Stare is based in Bristol, and supported by a number of organisations including Arts Council England, Ferment at Bristol Old Vic, Pervasive Media Studio, Parabola Learning Curve, The Roses Theatre, Bristol Capacity, Stroud Valley Arts and Mayfest.
