RSC and street theatre specialists join forces

The Royal Shakespeare Company gets together with street theatre specialists for young people's performances out and about in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is joining forces with one of Bath's most famous cultural exports, the Natural Theatre Company, to present performances with local young people on the streets of Stratford-upon-Avon in April.
The RSC and the Naturals are working together on a performance participation project for 14 to 18 year olds in a workshop taking place at the RSC's Clore Learning Centre from Monday 2 April to Wednesday 4 April 2012.
The project was initiated after the Naturals performed at last year's RSC Open Day. The Naturals entertained the queues with their special style of outdoor theatre and proved hugely popular with the crowds so they were asked back to create a specially tailored street performance workshop for young people.
Over three days of intensive training in April and making full use of the Company's facilities and professional expertise, young people taking part in the project will be tutored in the art of acting with a heavy emphasis on the Natural's particular brand of public performance.
The participants will develop their own pieces based on Shakespeare's characters before going 'walkabout' on the last day of the workshop to perform in costume before unsuspecting and hopefully delighted members of the public throughout Stratford-upon-Avon.
There may even be an opportunity for those taking part to put on further performances in the town at this year's Shakespeare's birthday celebrations which take place on Saturday 21 April.
The workshop takes place from Monday 2 April to Wednesday 4 April from 10am to 4pm each day. There are twenty places available on the workshop and places cost £50. Places can be booked by calling the RSC Box Office on 0844 800 1110 and further information is available on the website.

The RSC offers a wide range of workshops and events to give children, young people and adults the opportunity to explore Shakespeare's plays as actors and directors.
The RSC Events and Exhibitions programme gives fresh perspectives on Shakespeare and the work of the RSC. By commissioning some of today's most interesting artists, producers and practitioners the Company offers a creative programme that gives all audiences the opportunity to engage and create.
The Natural Theatre Company has long been renowned the world over for its unique brand of comic street theatre. Their obsessive eye for detail and high production values has proved a hit with the public in nearly 80 countries since they were founded in 1969.
Natural Theatre's work is largely unannounced and mingles highly observed and out of place characters into everyday life, often with hilarious or thought provoking results. They recently completed a five month residency at the award-winning UK Pavilion at Expo Shanghai and proved to be hugely popular with the Chinese visitors.
