Half Term Family Activities at the Royal Shakespeare Company

This February Half Term (Mon 17 – Sun 23 February) the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon is offering audiences and visitors activities for all the family inspired by the current family production Wendy & Peter Pan. Workshops include pirate dancing and sword fighting, free craft sessions where you can make your own fairy wings and movement sessions with actors. Also showing is Misunderstood Monsters, a fast moving spoken word show for ages 4 – 9 years, plus the very best of British food is available in the Rooftop Restaurant.

Wendy & Peter Pan
J M Barrie's much loved classic tale of the boy who never grows up is adapted in a spectacular new version by Ella Hickson and directed by Jonathan Munby in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. With Fiona Button as Wendy, Sam Swann as Peter Pan, Charlotte Mills as Tink and Guy Henry as Peter's nemesis Captain Hook.

Misunderstood Monsters
Half Moon presents an Aoife Mannix and Janie Armour production

Saint Georgie, a professional monster catcher and his faithful sidekick, Squeezy, are on their most dangerous mission yet. They are unstoppable heroes who use the latest digital technology to battle vile beasts. But when earth is threatened by aliens, Georgie is forced to question who the real bad guys are and needs the audience to come to the rescue!

Overcome your fear of fiends, spiders, crocodiles and aliens through the power of spoken word and music in this fast moving, out of this world adventure. Misunderstood Monsters is written and performed by Aoife Mannix and Janie Armour with site-specific digital game playing.

At the end of the show, the audience will be provided with details of how to download a free app that allows them to undertake a series of site-specific challenges connected with the show, and you can play the Monster Vision Challenge yourself.

Sea Shanty Singing Workshop
Learn to sing songs of the sea and dance a pirate jig. Fancy dress optional. No musical knowledge needed - just a love of singing. Suitable for ages 8+ (all children must be accompanied by an adult).

Crafty Drop-ins
Free drop-in craft sessions perfect for 3 to 7 year olds. There are three different Wendy and Peter Pan-themed activities throughout the week. We provide the instructions and materials for you and your little one to work with.

Monday 17 February, 12noon – 2pm
Colour in a map of Neverland or design a treasure map to your own magical island. Take your creation home on a piece of rolled parchment.

Tuesday 18 February 12noon – 2pm
Make a pair of Tinkerbell fairy wings or a Peter Pan hat and dress up as your favourite magical hero and heroine.

Friday 21 February 12noon – 2pm
Get in the fancy dress mood with all things pirate. Make yourself an eye patch, a beard, or decorate a cutlass sword.

Wendy & Peter Pan Active Storytelling
Become an actor and tell the story of Wendy & Peter Pan with our storyteller leading the way. Suitable for ages 4 - 8 (all children must be accompanied by an adult).

Movement Workshop
How do actors use their bodies to tell stories and create characters? Work with an actor and explore some of the physical moments from Wendy & Peter Pan. Suitable for ages 8+ and their parents/carers (all children must be accompanied by an adult).

Family Workshop – Shadow Play
Take part in a fun family workshop and tell the story of Wendy & Peter Pan by playing with shadows and light. No knowledge of the play required, as you'll be introduced to the story on the day. Suitable for ages 8+ and their parents/carers (all children must be accompanied by an adult).

Pirate Sword Stage Fighting
Our fun stage fighting workshop will teach you how to cross swords safely and make swashbuckling look real.

The Lost Boys' Lost Toys Trail
Pick up a free trail leaflet at any time from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre shop and hunt around the building for some very special lost property.

Take a trip up the Tower to experience an alternative view across Stratford-upon-Avon and beyond. A lift will take you up to the viewing platform. The Tower is open daily from 10am until 4pm. Please note the Tower may be closed around Matinee performances in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
