50th Birthday Box Office record

1 February 2011

The RSC announces record-breaking advance bookings for its 50th birthday season.

RSC Executive Director, Vikki Heywood, said today:

'Following an extremely busy members' booking period, we opened public booking on Friday for our 50th birthday season from April 2011. I'm delighted that we've already taken over £2.4m in advance ticket sales and schools and group reservations since 5 January.

'We hoped our new home would be a big draw for British and international visitors and these figures confirm that audiences share our excitement. It's a great start to our birthday year and an important step towards meeting our box office targets. As the Society of London Theatre findings showed last week, there is still a huge thirst for live theatre, despite the financial squeeze. Long may it continue.'
