Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Gregory Doran said:

'We are so proud to win an amazing four Tony Awards and for all our Matildas to receive a Tony Honour for Excellence in the Theatre. It's an honour to be on Broadway and we want to pay tribute to the fantastic American cast and crew who have worked on the show since January and to the incredible response we have had from New York audiences.

The RSC's production of Matilda The Musical has come a long way since Liccy Dahl approached us in 2003 and asked us to bring Roald Dahl's story to life in the theatre. We've nurtured this very special show for almost a decade, thanks to public investment and philanthropic support, and it's great to share it with so many people. We have a great partnership with the Dodgers, an extraordinary creative team and fantastic executive producers, André Ptaszynski and Denise Wood, who have been joined by many, many others, all of whom have let their imagination and creativity run riot on this dark and wonderful tale about a little girl who uses her intelligence to stick up for what's right. Thank you to them all.'

The Royal Shakespeare Company's world premiere production of Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical has captured the imagination of young and old alike and continues to play to packed houses at London's Cambridge Theatre.

Olivier Award nominated Canadian actor Alex Gaumond will join the company in the role of Miss Trunchbull and Kay Murphy will play Mrs Wormwood from 3 September 2013. Haley Flaherty will continue in the role of Miss Honey until 7 September 2014. Further casting will be announced soon.

Alex Gaumond's theatre credits include Top Hat The Musical (Aldywch Theatre), Jesus Christ Superstar (Ljubljana, Slovenia), We Will Rock You (Dominion Theatre / original UK tour), Legally Blonde (Savoy Theatre), Desperately Seeking Susan (Novello Theatre), Guys and Dolls (Donmar Warehouse UK tour), Sunday in the Park with George (Wyndhams Theatre), Scrooge (London Palladium) and The Full Monty (original UK tour).

Kay Murphy's theatre credits include The Tailormade Man (Arts Theatre), Top Hat The Musical (Aldywch Theatre), Chicago (Aldephi Theatre & Istanbul), Never Forget (UK tour), La Cage Aux Folles (Menier Chocolate Factory), Babes in Arms (Chichester Festival Theatre), The Rocky Horror Show (UK Tour/West End), Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (New London Theatre) and Fosse (European tour).

With a total of 24 awards for the London production to date, including seven Laurence Olivier Awards, over 800,000 people have seen Matilda The Musical in the West End since the show opened in October 2011. Alongside the 12 Tony Award nominations, the New York production has collected 20 awards on Broadway so far. For the full list of all the awards, please see 'Notes to Editors' below.
