Royal Shakespeare Company, directed by Trevor Nunn
First performed 400 years ago, the tragedy of King Lear remains one of the greatest plays in world drama, as Shakespeare investigates old age, mortality, family, man’s need for religious belief and the capacity to endure.
'One of the most lucid, powerful and moving productions of this great tragedy I have ever seen. What Ian McKellen achieves, with rare grace, simplicity and emotional candour is a performance that allows the audience to follow, and understand, every stage of Lear’s terrible journey'
Daily Telegraph
