Guided tours and touch tours at The Courtyard Theatre
Take a tour behind the scenes of The Courtyard Theatre and see the areas you would not normally see as an audience member, stand on the same stage as some of the world’s greatest actors and glimpse behind the scenes of what used to be The Other Place and is now the RSC’s main performing space.
You will gain an interesting insight into the colourful history of the company and learn more about current and upcoming productions. Discover how the sets work and how some of our incredible effects are achieved. As the prototype for the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre, you will also gain a sneak preview of our future.
The Courtyard Theatre is a fully working theatre and each tour is a unique experience. Some will be able to observe a rehearsal in progress, others will only be able to go backstage. As one of the busiest theatre companies in the world, rehearsals are frequent and a visit to all areas, including backstage cannot be guaranteed with every tour. What we can guarantee, however, is a fascinating experience.

Theatre Tours are free and last approximately 45 minutes.

Touch tours
The RSC offers touch tours at The Courtyard Theatre for our visually impaired patrons attending audio described performances. These tours will take you on to the stage to get close to the set, costumes and props used in the play you are coming to see. Find out more.
